In the footsteps of Paddington Bear, Little Venice and Camden Town
If it wasn’t for the children and their love for Paddington, we would probably never have reached Little Venice or Camden Town. And that would be a shame, because these are very pleasant and cozy neighborhoods 🙂
As you know, the name of the famous bear comes from Paddington railway station. It was where the Brown family found the lost bear cub and decided to take care of it. At the station itself you will find a Paddington bench and a statue of a bear. The statue was recently moved to the area of Platform 12, so it took us some time to find it. In general, part of the station is currently under reconstruction, so it is quite difficult to navigate and find something. We couldn’t find a gift shop with souvenirs from the movie at all (maybe it’s better;))
The Blue Statue below, you can find when walking along the Paddington Basin towards Little Venice (more or less under the Bishop’s Bridge Road)
After a short visit at Paddington, we headed towards a very picturesque district called Little Venice. From there you can take the water bus to Camden Town and that was exactly our plan. Unfortunately, we could not implement it, because when we arrived at the pier we found the barge closed and no information that the trips were canceled. We wanted to use the services of the London Waterbus Company, but unfortunately we did not find any information about canceled trips on their website either. Right next to it, there was also a barge from another company, but the closest departure was an hour later, so we gave up. You can also go on the canal in a small rented boat, but then you have to return it in the same place, and we only wanted to go one way. However, if you would like to take advantage of this option, you can rent a boat at GoBoat.
After a short discussion, we decided to take a walk a little along the picturesque canals of Little Venice and then catch a bus to Camden. But it was so nice going along the water watching the barges that we walked the entire route (about 3.5 km). On the way, we passed many barges permanently tied to the shore where people normally live. It was very interesting for the children, because they had never seen houses like this on the water before. They were very surprised that people had gardens and toys for children there.
The destination of our walk was Primrose Hill, specifically Chalcot Cresent. Why exactly there? Because this is the street where the films about Paddington were filmed, and the children really wanted to see the house where this funny bear lived. Street like a street. Colorful English houses. Clean, nice and quiet 🙂
From Primrose Hill we went further to the famous Camden Market, which is the perfect place for those who love street food and food from all over the world. Lots of little kiosks selling burgers, Argentinian sandwiches, tacos, noodles and other Asian delicacies. Each of us bought some food from a different booth and everyone was satisfied 🙂
Then there was a walk along the very interesting and lively Camden High street. Tattoo parlors, souvenir shops from all over the world, clothes, sweets … and graffiti or strange installations on the facades of buildings. A really nice atmosphere, quite different from the city center. It’s definitely worth a look if you have more time in London!
